ISA to Honor Achievements at Honors and Awards Dinner at Expo 2005 in Chicago Wednesday, July 06, 2005 ISA has scheduled its annual Honors and Awards gala, part of the Expo 2005 conference and exhibit, on Monday, October 24, 2004, at the Hyatt Regency Chicago Downtown Hotel. "Innovators and leaders in the automation and control global market truly set the standard for the industry to the next level, and it's important that we continue to recognize their achievements," said Don Zee, president of ISA. "ISA is committed to the advancement of automation and control technologies and is delighted to bestow these high honors on those individuals that continue to make a positive impact on the industry as a whole. It is this innovation and visionary leadership that drives productivity in the automation of industrial processes, and recognizing these individuals and their accomplishments is paramount for the future of the global automation industry." The following people will be presented awards: Keith D. Nosbusch of Rockwell Automation will be made an Honorary Member for his distinguished leadership in the advancement of the arts and sciences of instrumentation, systems and automation. Mr. Nosbusch is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Rockwell Automation. Béla G. Lipták, President of Béla Lipták Associates P.C., will receive the Life Achievement Award for his history of dedication to the instrumentation, systems, and automation community as evidenced by his teachings, writings, and inventions. Mr. Lipták, an ISA Fellow, has published over 200 technical articles and has written 34 technical books, including four editions of the multi-volume Instrument Engineer’s Handbook. W. Wayne Wittenberger, of Joshua Innoveers in Chicago, IL, will receive the Douglas H. Annin Award for the development of an improved automatic control system for the food industry. Mr. Wittenberger, of the Chicago Section, will also become an ISA Fellow. Donald E. Labbe of Invensys will receive the E.G. Bailey Award for his state of the art application, design and implementation of model predictive control and non-linear based controls on coal, oil, and gas fired boilers. Mr. Labbe, of the Boston Section, will also become an ISA Fellow. Charles J. Carter, Principal Investigator and Center Director of Lee College Fieldbus Center in Baytown, Texas will receive the Donald P. Eckman Education Award for his outstanding educational and training contributions to the fields of instrumentation and process control and vision for programs in automation. Mr. Carter is a member of the ISA Texas Channel Section. Angela E. Summers, Ph.D., President of SIS-TECH Solutions, LP and SIS-TECH Applications, LP in Houston, Texas will receive the Albert F. Sperry Founder Award for her outstanding technical contributions and leadership in the specification, development, and implementation of safety instrumented systems for the process automation industry. Dr. Summers is a member of the ISA Houston Section. James W. Harris of UOP LLC in Chicago, Illinois, will receive the UOP Technology Award for contributions made to the development of improved refinery and petrochemical plant process controls applications. Mr. Harris, of the Chicago Section, wil become an ISA Fellow. This year’s event will focus on enjoying Chicago’s unique attributes – complete with the awards ceremony, music and dancing.
